R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many proud citizens of Frio County are gathering in
  Austin on March 5, 2025, in celebration of Frio County Day at the
  State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Situated along the Frio River, the county is defined
  by its rolling plains, diverse vegetation, and rich soil that has
  supported agriculture for generations; originally home to the
  Payaya and Pachal Indians, the region saw limited settlement until
  after the Civil War due to conflicts with the Comanche; and
         WHEREAS, Frio County was officially established by the Texas
  Legislature on February 1, 1858, from portions of Atascosa, Bexar,
  and Uvalde Counties; formal organization occurred in 1871, and
  12 years later, Pearsall was chosen as the county seat; and
         WHEREAS, In the late 19th century, the introduction of barbed
  wire fencing and irrigation greatly improved agricultural
  prospects, and the expansion of railroads opened new markets;
  cotton was the dominant crop until the Great Depression;
  subsequently, peanut farming emerged as a key industry, aided by
  such innovations as the peanut combine, which was developed by a
  Frio County farmer; and
         WHEREAS, Due to its location in the Eagle Ford Shale region,
  the county has experienced significant economic development over
  the years; oil and gas production has fueled commercial growth, job
  creation, and an influx of new residents; and
         WHEREAS, Frio County is renowned for its thriving wildlife
  and premier hunting grounds, which span approximately 675,000
  acres; in addition, visitors are drawn to such cultural landmarks
  as the Old Frio County Jail Museum in Pearsall and the iconic giant
  watermelon statue in Dilley, a town long recognized for its
  abundant watermelon cultivation; and
         WHEREAS, Building on their heritage, the industrious
  residents of Frio County are preserving the best of the past while
  working toward an even brighter future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as Frio County Day at
  the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere
  best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable stay in Austin.
