R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Esteemed residents of Pleasanton are gathering at |
|
the State Capitol on March 4, 2025, to celebrate the city's rich |
|
heritage and promising future; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nestled in Atascosa County along the Atascosa River |
|
and Bonita Creek, Pleasanton was established in 1858 as the county |
|
seat, bearing the name of early settler John Pleasant; although the |
|
county seat was moved to Jourdanton in 1910, Pleasanton continued |
|
to flourish and became a vital hub for cattle drivers journeying to |
|
Kansas, which gave rise to its nickname as the "Birthplace of the |
|
Cowboy"; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Pleasanton is home to more than 11,000 |
|
residents; the community, which is affectionately referred to as |
|
"The City of Live Oaks and Friendly Folks," continues to maintain |
|
its small-town charm while enjoying easy access to the amenities of |
|
the San Antonio metropolitan area; the city's vibrant culture is |
|
showcased through its cherished annual celebrations, including |
|
Cowboy Heritage Days, Merry on Main, and a spirited Fourth of July |
|
festival; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although farming and ranching continue to play an |
|
important role in the local economy, Pleasanton has diversified |
|
into industries such as oil and gas, retail, and health care, and it |
|
is a key destination for shopping and business in Atascosa County; |
|
the Pleasanton Independent School District serves local students |
|
from primary through high school, and area residents further |
|
benefit from the educational and workforce-training opportunities |
|
offered by Coastal Bend College; and |
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Pleasanton are dedicated to |
|
preserving their community's storied past while embracing the |
|
opportunities of the future, and it is indeed fitting to honor them |
|
for the unique contributions they have made to the Lone Star State; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2025, as Pleasanton Day at |
|
the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to all those visiting on |
|
this special occasion. |
