R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud citizens of University Park celebrated the |
|
100th anniversary of the incorporation of their city on April 12, |
|
2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, Located five miles north of downtown Dallas, |
|
University Park began as a cluster of homes surrounding Southern |
|
Methodist University, which was founded in 1911 and offered its |
|
first classes in 1915; the residences were originally built to |
|
house the teachers and staff of the university, but by 1924, the |
|
area was home to more than 1,200 people, and SMU could no longer |
|
afford to supply water and sewer lines to the growing community; |
|
University Park was officially incorporated on April 12, 1924; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the ensuing decades, University Park |
|
experienced significant development and population growth, and |
|
today, the community boasts more than 25,000 residents and is one of |
|
the Metroplex's most desirable neighborhoods; known for its |
|
attractive homes, beautiful parks, and numerous churches, the area |
|
benefits from its proximity to a wide range of cultural, |
|
recreational, and business activities; in addition to being one of |
|
the most affluent communities in the nation, the city is also home |
|
to one of its most highly educated populations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build |
|
an even brighter future, the citizens of University Park are |
|
justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to |
|
recognize the city's contributions to the Lone Star State; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the |
|
incorporation of University Park and extend to its residents |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the city as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
