R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Deputy Fernando Esqueda of the Harris County |
|
|
Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty on July 11, 2024, at |
|
|
the age of 28, and his untimely passing is a tragic loss to his |
|
|
family, to his fellow officers, and to the residents of his |
|
|
community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Catalina Guerrero and Jose Leonardo |
|
|
Esqueda, Fernando Esqueda was born on February 13, 1996, and he grew |
|
|
up in Houston with the companionship of six siblings, Brenda, Jose, |
|
|
Vanessa, Pedro, Eric, and Incy; he attended Austin High School, |
|
|
where he played football and was a member of the Sonic Boom Band; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Mr. Esqueda joined the Texas |
|
|
Department of Criminal Justice and accepted an assignment at the |
|
|
Goree Unit in Huntsville; after graduating from the University of |
|
|
Houston Downtown Law Enforcement Academy, he joined the Harris |
|
|
County Precinct 6 Constable's Office; he began his tenure at the |
|
|
Harris County Sheriff's Office in February 2019, and he served as a |
|
|
patrol officer in District 3 before transferring to District 2; on |
|
|
September 24, 2022, he became a member of the elite Violent Persons |
|
|
Warrants Task Force; throughout his career, he earned the respect |
|
|
and admiration of his colleagues for his integrity, bravery, and |
|
|
steadfast dedication to protecting and serving the public; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Esqueda shared a rewarding relationship with |
|
|
his fiancée, Emily Guerra, and he treasured time spent with his |
|
|
eight nieces and nephews; in his leisure hours, he enjoyed hunting, |
|
|
fishing, singing, and dancing; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A courageous law enforcement officer, Fernando |
|
|
Esqueda embodied the highest ideals of his profession, and although |
|
|
he is deeply missed, his commitment to his loved ones and to Harris |
|
|
County will be remembered and admired for years to come; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Deputy Fernando |
|
|
Esqueda and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many friends; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fernando |
|
|
Esqueda. |
