R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Reta Gay Nance were |
|
deeply saddened by her passing on November 29, 2024, at the age of |
|
85; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of G. W. and Wilma Garrett, the former |
|
Reta Garrett was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on June 24, 1939, and she |
|
grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Martha and Bob; she |
|
graduated from Whiteface High School in 1957 and later earned a |
|
bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University; and |
|
WHEREAS, On June 29, 1959, she married her high school |
|
sweetheart, John Michael Nance, and they shared a fulfilling |
|
relationship until his passing; Mrs. Nance was a devoted mother to |
|
her three daughters, Sonnya, Ginger, and Traci, and with the |
|
passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to |
|
include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Nance enjoyed a rewarding career as an educator |
|
that spanned more than two and a half decades, and she taught in the |
|
Plains Independent School District for many years before eventually |
|
retiring from Cedar Hill ISD; in her leisure time, she enjoyed |
|
traveling and playing golf; a woman of strong faith, she was a |
|
longtime member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church |
|
of Plains, and later, she was an active congregant of Acton Baptist |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Reta Nance is greatly missed, she has left |
|
her family and friends with many cherished memories, and she will |
|
forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Reta Gay Nance and |
|
extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|
daughters, Sonnya Airhart and her husband, Todd, Ginger Spiller and |
|
her husband, David, and Traci Scarbrough and her husband, Jason; to |
|
her grandchildren, Taylor Ledyard and her husband, Joey, Jordan |
|
Airhart and his wife, Katie, Mason Spiller and his wife, Alexandra, |
|
Reid Spiller and his wife, Haley, Madeline Scarbrough, and Parker |
|
Scarbrough; to her great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Graceland |
|
Ledyard, Wyatt Airhart, and John, Caroline, Carson, and Campbell |
|
Spiller; to her siblings, Martha Brooks and her husband, Dick, and |
|
Bob Garrett and his wife, Mary Kay; and to her other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Reta Nance. |
