R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas State University celebrated its 125th |
|
anniversary in 2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established as Southwest Texas State Normal School |
|
on May 10, 1899, with the purpose of training the future teachers of |
|
Texas, the institution first opened its doors on September 9, 1903, |
|
and the inaugural class of 32 teachers graduated in May 1904; the |
|
school was renamed several times through the ensuing decades as the |
|
scope of its mission broadened, and in 2013, it adopted its |
|
present-day name; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Texas State is a dynamic institution of |
|
higher learning with a long tradition of research and academic |
|
excellence, and it serves more than 40,000 students and offers over |
|
200 degree programs across its nine colleges; moreover, its alumni |
|
network consists of some 230,000 graduates; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texas State operates out of two campuses, in San |
|
Marcos and Round Rock, and in August 2025, it is opening an |
|
international campus in Mexico; among its many accolades, TXST was |
|
recognized as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader by |
|
the U.S. Department of State for the second consecutive year in |
|
2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its founding 125 years ago, Texas State has |
|
provided generations of Texans with a strong foundation for |
|
achievement, and in so doing, it has contributed significantly to |
|
the prosperity and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of Texas State |
|
University and commend all those who have contributed to its |
|
mission of building a better tomorrow; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for TXST as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
of Representatives. |
