R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Mariachi Nueva Generación of Texas State University |
|
|
has achieved great distinction by winning first place in the |
|
|
college/university category at the 30th annual Mariachi |
|
|
Extravaganza held in San Antonio on December 5-7, 2024; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Mariachi Extravaganza is a multiday festival |
|
|
that celebrates the culture and history of Latin music and promotes |
|
|
higher education and cultural preservation among Hispanic youth; |
|
|
more than 1,000 student-musicians showcase their talents during the |
|
|
national vocal and group competitions, which has categories for |
|
|
middle school, high school, and college/university participants; |
|
|
on the last day of the event, the winners join together for a |
|
|
concert; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in the fall of 1997, Mariachi Nueva |
|
|
Generación is a Latin music studies class at Texas State University |
|
|
dedicated to the practice of all genres associated with mariachi, |
|
|
including son, huapango, bolero, and polka, among others; over the |
|
|
years, the group has performed throughout the region and has |
|
|
received a multitude of awards; in addition, MNG holds programs and |
|
|
clinics for students from across Texas, and each spring, it hosts |
|
|
the Feria del Mariachi competition and workshop; with their victory |
|
|
at the Mariachi Extravaganza, the talented musicians of Mariachi |
|
|
Nueva Generación earned the opportunity to perform in the final |
|
|
concert, which featured the world-renowned Mariachi Vargas de |
|
|
Tecalitlán; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through their skill, hard work, and dedication, the |
|
|
members of Mariachi Nueva Generación have contributed to the |
|
|
vibrancy of a rich musical tradition, and their accomplishments are |
|
|
a source of great pride to the Texas State community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Mariachi Nueva Generación on |
|
|
winning first place at the 2024 Mariachi Extravaganza and extend to |
|
|
all those associated with the group sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mariachi Nueva Generación as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
