R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many proud members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority are
  gathering at the State Capitol on March 18, 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Organized by seven young educators in Indianapolis,
  Indiana, in 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho became an incorporated national
  collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was
  granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University; it is the only
  member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council "Divine Nine" that
  began as a professional organization at a predominantly white
  institution; and
         WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho today is an international service
  organization with more than 100,000 members in over 500 chapters in
  the United States, as well as in the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Virgin
  Islands, Canada, Germany, South Korea, and the United Arab
  Emirates; through community service and civil and social action,
  members work to enhance quality of life for women and their families
  across the country and beyond; areas of particular focus include
  education and health awareness; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, the sorority has provided
  opportunities for members to develop their unique talents; it
  offers leadership training and activities that develop
  professional contacts and supportive friendships that can last a
  lifetime; Sigma women are active in a wide array of professions, and
  they have achieved prominence in such fields as politics,
  entertainment, literature, business, higher education, and sports;
  moreover, Sigma Gamma Rho has created affiliate groups that empower
  women at different stages of life, including the Rhoer Club and
  Philo Affiliates; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by their motto, "Greater Service, Greater
  Progress," the members of Sigma Gamma Rho continue to set an
  inspiring example through their commitment to uplifting
  communities and to spurring positive change; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 18, 2025, as Sigma Gamma Rho
  Sorority Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to all
  those in attendance; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the sorority as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
