R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day is taking place at the |
|
|
State Capitol on March 13, 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to |
|
|
recognize the many contributions of the Nepalese American community |
|
|
in Texas and to celebrate the rich history of the province of |
|
|
Lumbini in Nepal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The United States and Nepal have enjoyed a strong |
|
|
and productive friendship for 77 years; on April 25, 1947, the |
|
|
U.S. became the second country to establish diplomatic relations |
|
|
with Nepal, which opened its embassy in Washington, D.C., in 1958; |
|
|
the American Embassy in Kathmandu began operations the following |
|
|
year; since that time, many Americans and Nepalis have formed |
|
|
people-to-people connections through educational and cultural |
|
|
exchanges; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of the most sacred locations in Buddhism, |
|
|
Lumbini is recognized as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who |
|
|
became the Buddha; the area has been named a UNESCO World Heritage |
|
|
Site, and it is a major spiritual destination for people of the |
|
|
Buddhist faith; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Lumbini attracts millions of pilgrims and tourists |
|
|
annually, and it serves as a research center for scholars and |
|
|
archeologists; the area features such attractions as monasteries, |
|
|
temples, and historical landmarks, including the Maya Devi Temple, |
|
|
which marks the location of the Buddha's birth; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Nepalese American community plays a vital role |
|
|
in the business, professional, and cultural life of Texas, and the |
|
|
participants in this advocacy day are demonstrating their |
|
|
commitment to making an even greater positive impact in the years |
|
|
ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2025, as Nepali Lumbini |
|
|
Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
|
|
visiting delegation. |
