R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Calhoun County lost an esteemed |
|
community leader and friend to many with the passing of County Judge |
|
Richard Harold Meyer on November 18, 2024, at the age of 74; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Robert and Gladys Elder Meyer, Richard |
|
Meyer was born in Port Lavaca on July 5, 1950, and he grew up with |
|
the companionship of four siblings, Lloyd, Bobby, Mary, and Lois |
|
Ann; after graduating from Calhoun High School in 1968, he answered |
|
his nation's call to duty and served for six years as a member of the |
|
National Guard; and |
|
WHEREAS, In civilian life, he was a farmer and rancher and |
|
later worked in the liquid feed industry while continuing to tend to |
|
the land; highly engaged in his community, he gave generously of his |
|
time and talents to numerous organizations over the years, |
|
including the Calhoun County Youth Rodeo Association, the Victoria |
|
Economic Development Corporation, Hospice of South Texas, and the |
|
Calhoun County Cattlemen's Association, where he served as |
|
president for more than two decades; in recognition of his |
|
contributions, he was named the 2014 Man of the Year by the Port |
|
Lavaca Chamber of Commerce; on January 1, 2019, he was sworn in as |
|
Calhoun County judge, and at the time of his passing, he was serving |
|
his second term; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Meyer enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife of 49 years, Jackie; he was the proud father |
|
of two children, Ty and Leslie, and his treasured family eventually |
|
grew to include nine grandchildren, Lucas, Dania, Adan, Eva, |
|
Matias, Antonio, Kamie, Morgen, and Whitten; a man of strong faith, |
|
he was an active congregant of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
|
Richard Meyer made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved |
|
ones and fellow citizens alike, and memories of his leadership, |
|
integrity, and compassion will forever inspire all those who had |
|
the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Richard |
|
Harold Meyer and that sincere condolences be extended to his family |
|
and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge |
|
Richard Meyer. |
