R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The nonprofit organization Small Places is hosting |
|
|
its third annual Salsa de Mayo Festival in Houston on May 10, 2025; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 2014 by brothers Daniel, Mark, and Thomas |
|
|
Garcia-Prats, Small Places works to combat systemic inequities and |
|
|
foster community health and sustainability by developing farms on |
|
|
underutilized land in urban areas; based in Houston's Second Ward, |
|
|
the organization focuses on neighborhood food production and |
|
|
distribution, education, and farmer training; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In its first year at the newly opened Finca Tres |
|
|
Robles farm, the Salsa de Mayo Festival celebrates Houston's tomato |
|
|
harvest, and it will feature a salsa competition as well as other |
|
|
food, games, and art; it will also be accompanied by the |
|
|
organization's Spring Harvest Farm Dinner, which celebrates the |
|
|
culinary traditions of Houston and its East End neighborhoods; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Salsa de Mayo Festival has become a beloved |
|
|
community event, and it promises to be an enjoyable occasion for all |
|
|
those in attendance; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the third annual Salsa de Mayo |
|
|
Festival in Houston and extend to its organizers sincere best |
|
|
wishes for a successful event. |
