R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Hill County are gathering in
  Austin on March 19, 2025, to celebrate Hill County Day at the State
  Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, On February 7, 1853, Hill County was created from
  the western section of Navarro County by an act of the State
  Legislature; it was named in honor of Dr. George Washington Hill, a
  member of the Congress of the Republic of Texas and the secretary of
  war and navy under President Sam Houston; later that year, citizens
  convened at Lexington on Jack's Branch to elect their public
  officials, and Hillsboro was platted and designated as the county
  seat; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Hill County is home to an estimated
  population of more than 36,000, and its cities and townships
  include Abbott, Aquilla, Blum, Bynum, Carl's Corner, Covington,
  Hillsboro, Hubbard, Itasca, Malone, Mertens, Mount Calm, Penelope,
  and Whitney; the county's economy benefits from trade, ranching,
  and agriculture, and since joining the DFW International Airport's
  Foreign Trade Zone 39 service area in 2023, the county has
  experienced significant growth in manufacturing, storage
  facilities, and transportation services; and
         WHEREAS, The county's cities and local organizations host a
  number of events enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, including
  the Hill County Fair, Hill College Rodeo, Churrofest, Hubbard Trade
  Days, Bond's Alley Arts Festival, summer concert series, farmers
  markets, Pioneer Days, Oktoberfest, Christmas parades, and
  Hubbard's Magnolia and Mistletoe; in addition, the Hillsboro City
  Library plans enrichment programs throughout the year; and
         WHEREAS, Offering ample opportunities for outdoor
  recreation, Hill County is a popular destination for camping,
  hiking, boating, bird-watching, skiing, and golfing at Lake Whitney
  and Lake Whitney State Park; located along Interstate 35, Hillsboro
  attracts numerous travelers seeking the Historic Main Street, Hill
  County Courthouse, and Historic Residential District, and the
  city's 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee's store is a boon to the local
  economy; and
         WHEREAS, The Hill College campus in Hillsboro houses the
  Texas Heritage Museum, which boasts an extensive collection of
  Audie Murphy artifacts, a 10,000-volume library on the Civil War,
  and the official Texas State Medal of Honor Memorial to Native-Born
  Texans; while meeting academic and workforce needs, the college
  also fosters cultural enrichment through its popular performing
  arts series; and
         WHEREAS, The people of Hill County take great pride in their
  history as they continue to build an even brighter and more
  prosperous future, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for
  their contributions to the story of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 19, 2025, as Hill County Day at
  the Texas Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere
  best wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in Austin.
