R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tiara Cooper has been named a recipient of the 2025 |
|
|
Outstanding Texan Award for House District 100 by the Texas |
|
|
Legislative Black Caucus; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Ms. Cooper is a social justice |
|
|
leader who is currently serving as deputy director of the Texas |
|
|
Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and as managing director of |
|
|
In Defense of Black Lives Dallas; she has also worked with Live |
|
|
Free, the Texas Organizing Project, and Dignity Over Dollars; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Cooper has |
|
|
received numerous awards, including the 2023 Future of Texas Award |
|
|
from Every Texan, the 2023 Ally of the Year Award from the Dallas |
|
|
County Democratic Party, and the 2021 Catalyst Award from the |
|
|
Juanita Craft Humanitarian Awards, and in 2020, she was named the |
|
|
Organizer of the Year by Next Generation Action Network; in |
|
|
addition, she presented a TEDx talk about her lived experience |
|
|
entitled "Your Mugshot Moment"; she is an alumna of the Theology and |
|
|
Racialized Policing Cohort Program at the Howard University School |
|
|
of Divinity, and she participated in the Emerging Leaders |
|
|
International Fellows Program at The City University of New York |
|
|
Graduate Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through her commitment to grassroots activism, |
|
|
criminal justice reform, and the advancement of civil rights, Tiara |
|
|
Cooper is making a positive difference in the lives of countless |
|
|
Texans, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tiara Cooper on her receipt of a |
|
|
2025 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black |
|
|
Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
|
with her important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Cooper as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
