R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of Environmental Justice Day at the |
|
|
State Capitol on April 10, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity to |
|
|
highlight the outstanding organizations that help to promote a |
|
|
safe, clean, and healthy environment for all Texans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Vulnerable individuals, especially in low-income |
|
|
communities of color, have been overburdened by contaminants in our |
|
|
air, water, and soil that negatively impact public health; |
|
|
advocates of the environmental justice movement are working to |
|
|
rally support for meaningful change that would mitigate pollution, |
|
|
flooding, and other hazards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans benefit from the many contributions of |
|
|
environmental justice groups such as Air Alliance Houston, |
|
|
Coalition for Environment, Equity, and Resilience, Bayou City |
|
|
Waterkeeper, and Public Citizen; these organizations have |
|
|
demonstrated a steadfast commitment to protecting the environment |
|
|
and uplifting working-class communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Environmental justice advocates have played an |
|
|
instrumental role in improving the quality of life for residents of |
|
|
the Lone Star State, and they are indeed worthy of special |
|
|
recognition for addressing this critical issue that affects |
|
|
countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Environmental |
|
|
Justice Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
|
|
visiting delegation. |
