  H.R. No. 600

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, The Family Place in
Dallas has provided shelter and support to the victims of violence,
and the observance of Domestic Violence Advocacy Day at the State
Capitol on March 20, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity to
  recognize the organization; and
WHEREAS, The Family Place, the Texas Council on Family
Violence, and the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault are
among the groups gathering for Domestic Violence Advocacy Day; The
Family Place traces its origins to 1976, when the Battered Women's
Task Force was established in Dallas; two years later, the Dallas
Violence Intervention Alliance opened The Family Place as one of
the first family violence shelters in Texas; known today as the
largest such service provider in the Lone Star State, it advocates
for community engagement and social change while providing the
survivors of violence with the safe housing, counseling, and skills
they need to rebuild and lead independent lives; and
WHEREAS, Among The Family Place's offerings are a 24-hour
crisis hotline, emergency shelters for women, children, and men,
extended-stay apartments and transitional housing, area counseling
centers, medical and dental care, job, technical, and life skills
  training, and the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program;
moreover, the Child Development Center provides early childhood
education and mentoring programs as well as specialized curriculum
for youth five and under who have experienced trauma; and
WHEREAS, The Family Place benefits from the exceptional
leadership of Delia Jasso, who serves on its executive board of
directors and as chair of its Hispanic Advisory Council, which she
established in 2023; the council supports the organization's work
in the Hispanic community, developing resources written in Spanish
and raising awareness of the unique barriers that Hispanic
individuals face in seeking assistance in domestic violence
  situations; and
WHEREAS, The Family Place has helped countless area Texans to
break the cycle of domestic violence and abuse, and it is indeed a
pleasure to join in honoring the organization at this time and to
extend sincere gratitude to Delia Jasso for her work in supporting
families and for serving as an inspiring role model; now,
  therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 20, 2025, as Domestic Violence
Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and commend all those associated
with The Family Place for their exemplary service to the survivors
of family violence; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for The Family Place as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
