R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Many Texans are joining together with people around |
|
the world in celebration of Navroz, also known as the Persian New |
|
Year, on March 21, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, This festival celebrates the first day of spring, |
|
which is observed by many communities, particularly in Central and |
|
South Asia; and |
|
WHEREAS, The origin of the celebration can be traced back to |
|
ancient Persia, and the observance marks the first day of the |
|
Persian solar year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Navroz commemorates a centuries-old agrarian custom |
|
that over time was integrated into various cultures and faith |
|
groups; and |
|
WHEREAS, Navroz is traditionally celebrated by the recital of |
|
devotional poetry, prayers, and the distribution of dried fruits, |
|
nuts, and grains to symbolize the abundance of sustenance; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Navroz is celebrated in different ways by |
|
some 300 million people around the world, and it traditionally |
|
commences with a spring cleaning of the home; and |
|
WHEREAS, The observance of Navroz in the Lone Star State is a |
|
reflection of the lively blend of cultures that have shaped our |
|
state's history and identity, and this joyous event is indeed |
|
deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the celebration of Navroz on March |
|
21, 2025, and extend to all those who are participating in the |
|
festivities sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful |
|
occasion. |
