R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her notable contributions to area |
|
athletics, Mission Veterans Memorial High School head volleyball |
|
coach Diana Lerma is being inducted into the Rio Grande Valley |
|
Sports Hall of Fame on June 28, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1988, the RGV Sports Hall of Fame has paid |
|
tribute to individuals who have made a positive impact in the |
|
community through sports-related endeavors; the hall was created to |
|
honor former student-athletes, amateur athletes, coaches, |
|
administrators, officials, trainers, and media figures who have |
|
distinguished themselves with their accomplishments; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Mission, Diana Lerma initially gained |
|
acclaim as a standout volleyball player at Mission High School; |
|
following her graduation in 1981, she went on to compete in the |
|
sport at Laredo Junior College and Southwest Texas State |
|
University, where she was named to the Southland All-Conference |
|
Team; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Lerma began her volleyball coaching career at |
|
La Joya High School; in 2002, she was hired to launch the volleyball |
|
program at Veterans Memorial High, and she immediately set about |
|
building a winning culture; over the years, she has enjoyed |
|
remarkable success at the helm of the team, racking up over 800 |
|
career wins while directing the Lady Patriots to nearly 50 total |
|
district, bi-district, and area championships and to four |
|
appearances in the Sweet 16; in addition, a number of her |
|
student-athletes have received college scholarships; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her dedicated efforts, Diana Lerma has |
|
furthered the proud tradition of athletic achievement in the Rio |
|
Grande Valley, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious |
|
honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Diana Lerma on her induction into |
|
the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Coach Lerma as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
