H.R. No. 629

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team from Summit High School in
Arlington closed out a historic campaign by winning the 2025
University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2 state
  championship; and
WHEREAS, Summit began its journey to the title with an
impressive run in the regular season that yielded the district
crown; continuing to excel in the playoffs, the Jaguars dispatched
Fort Worth Polytechnic, Argyle, Canutillo, and Colleyville
Heritage High Schools to earn their second state tournament
  appearance after having first advanced to the final four in 2023;
with a 48-40 victory against Killeen Ellison in the semifinals, the
team punched its ticket to the state championship contest; and
WHEREAS, On March 8, Summit battled Missouri City Marshall
High School in a rematch of a regular-season game; determined to
avenge their loss in that outing, the Jaguars unleashed their
tenacious defense, holding the Buffalos to 31 percent shooting in
the first half to take a 25-13 lead at intermission; Summit was up
by 12 points entering the fourth quarter and then exhibited great
resilience down the stretch after its foe narrowed the margin to
48-43 with just over a minute left; the Jaguars closed strong, and
when the final seconds ticked off the clock, they celebrated a 54-47
victory and the program's inaugural state title; and
WHEREAS, The Jaguars were led by Ian Sedah, the championship
game Most Valuable Player who was joined by Theo Brannan, Caleb
Richard, and Javon Ross on the All-Tournament Team; Summit also
received valuable contributions throughout the year from the other
members of the roster: Mason Williams, Isaiah Walker, Michael
Gibbs, David Bardere, Sam Getnet, Zion Lewis, Jaxon Sneed, DeMarus
Bird, Braylon Turner-Somerville, and Emund Prichett II; these
determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Emund
Prichett and assistant coaches Kevin Barona, Shane Earwood, and
  Windley Laborte; and
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
commitment to excellence, and the Summit Jaguars will treasure the
memory of this accomplishment for the rest of their lives; now,
  therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Summit High School boys'

championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
