R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Janette Kathleen Davis of Galveston on January 3, 2025, |
|
at the age of 60; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Cheryl Brien and William Warren, the |
|
former Jan Warren was born in Fort Worth on October 18, 1964; after |
|
graduating from Southwest High School, she earned a bachelor's |
|
degree in forest management from Stephen F. Austin State University |
|
in 1986; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated environmental advocate, Ms. Davis |
|
worked for the Texas A&M Forest Service for 17 years, beginning in |
|
its oak wilt program in Granbury and later leading rural assistance |
|
programs and addressing forest policy issues at the agency's |
|
headquarters in College Station; she went on to join the U.S. Forest |
|
Service, where she eventually served as deputy regional forester |
|
for the Southern Region of State, Private, and Tribal Forestry; at |
|
the time of her passing, she was a program manager for the Wildfire |
|
Risk Reduction Infrastructure Team, a committee created to prevent |
|
and manage forest fires in the western United States; and |
|
WHEREAS, Widely respected by her colleagues, Ms. Davis was |
|
instrumental in moving the Society of American Foresters annual |
|
convention to Fort Worth; the recipient of a number of professional |
|
honors, she was especially admired for her great commitment to the |
|
preservation of woodlands and to mentorship; a devoted mother to |
|
her son, William Warren Davis, she enjoyed hosting friends and |
|
family at her home, gardening, and attending live events; her life |
|
was further enriched by the companionship of her cherished |
|
Doberman, Abba, with whom she spent many happy hours walking on the |
|
beaches of Galveston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this treasured |
|
woman's love and friendship will always remember her with great |
|
admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Janette Kathleen |
|
Davis and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |
|
to her son, William Warren Davis; to her parents, Cheryl Young Brien |
|
and William Miles Warren and his wife, Sharon Giraud Warren; to her |
|
brother, William Jeffrey Warren; and to her other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jan Davis. |
