R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Fourth-grade students of St. Mark's School of Texas |
|
in Dallas are visiting the State Capitol on April 10, 2025, |
|
providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the school's rich |
|
history; and |
|
WHEREAS, The campus traces its roots to 1906, when founder |
|
Menter B. Terrill and his wife, Ada, established The Terrill School |
|
for Boys; in 1946, the campus reopened as Cathedral School for Boys, |
|
and four years later, it merged with Texas Country Day School to |
|
form St. Mark's, a nonsectarian, college-preparatory, independent |
|
day school for boys in grades 1 through 12; and |
|
WHEREAS, St. Mark's strives to provide students with |
|
well-rounded physical, intellectual, moral, and religious training |
|
and instruction; today, the school serves more than 900 students, |
|
and it offers challenging programs in the sciences, arts, and |
|
humanities, as well as a variety of opportunities for involvement |
|
and leadership on campus; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the past 119 years, St. Mark's has provided |
|
countless young Texans a strong academic foundation on which to |
|
build, and the school is indeed deserving of special recognition; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the fourth-grade students of St. Mark's |
|
School of Texas on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol |
|
and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future. |
