R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Purple Songs Can Fly was recently awarded a $10,000
  Arts Create grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 2006 by executive director Anita Kruse,
  Purple Songs Can Fly is a nonprofit Houston-based organization that
  provides a musical outlet for children being treated for cancer and
  blood disorders at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers;
  in this unique program, the patients and their siblings work with
  professional singer-songwriters in an in-hospital recording studio
  to write and record their original songs; and
         WHEREAS, Among the group's many initiatives are
  collaborations with VoiceAmerica Kids Network and members of the
  Houston Symphony; in addition, CDs of the children's songs have
  been taken across the globe and into outer space, with destinations
  including the summit of Mount Everest, the undersea site of the RMS
  Titanic, a world tour with the Rolling Stones, and two space shuttle
  missions; moreover, in 2015, the first Purple Songs Can Fly
  musical, Journey To Hope, was created and performed by six
  long-term survivors, and it is now an award-winning documentary;
  and
         WHEREAS, By inspiring children to express their innermost
  thoughts and dreams through music, Purple Songs Can Fly has made a
  positive impact on the lives of countless young Texans and their
  families, and the funding provided by the Texas Commission on the
  Arts will help the organization to continue their important work;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Purple Songs Can Fly on its receipt
  of an Arts Create grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts and
  extend to all those involved with the group sincere best wishes for
  the future.
