R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Juan Carlos Huerta was named a recipient of the
  2023-2024 Texas A&M University System Regents Professor Award in
  recognition of his 30 years of exemplary service to the System and
  Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, The TAMU System's highest faculty honor, this
  designation acknowledges outstanding contributions to teaching,
  research, and service; as a professor of political science at
  TAMU-Corpus Christi, Dr. Huerta has demonstrated an exceptional
  commitment to his discipline and to student success, particularly
  among first-year and first-generation scholars; he strives to
  empower students who need extra encouragement, and his classes are
  popular with majors and non-majors alike; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Huerta joined the TAMU-CC faculty in 1995, and
  he has focused his research on public opinion, Texas politics, and
  Latino politics; long at the forefront of inquiry on Latino
  identity in political science, including motivations for party
  affiliation and attitudes about public policy, he is currently
  involved in grant-funded research on the topic; moreover, he
  coauthored the last several editions of a popular textbook,
  Practicing Texas Politics, and he has written a number of book
  chapters and journal articles; and
         WHEREAS, In 2015, Dr. Huerta helped establish the National
  Learning Communities Association, and he served as founding
  president; he has further served his profession as vice president
  of the American Political Science Association and president of the
  Southwestern Political Science Association; in 2024, the Political
  Science Education Section of the APSA presented him with the
  Lifetime Achievement Award; he is also a recipient of the Amigo de
  la Isla Award from the TAMU-CC Division of Student Engagement and
  Success; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his long career, Juan Carlos
  Huerta has advanced knowledge in his field and helped countless
  students to better understand the political forces that shape our
  world, and he is richly deserving of this prestigious accolade;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Juan Carlos Huerta on his
  selection as a Texas A&M University System Regents Professor and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Huerta as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
