R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Susana Imelda Alemán of |
|
Austin were deeply saddened by her death on March 21, 2025, at the |
|
age of 70; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Élida Wilson Alemán and Manuel |
|
Alemán, Susana Alemán was born in Edinburg on July 17, 1954, and she |
|
grew up with the companionship of an older sister, Yolanda; when she |
|
was eight years old, her family moved to Falfurrias, where she |
|
graduated from Falfurrias High School as valedictorian in 1972; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Alemán attended The University of Texas at |
|
Austin, earning her bachelor's degree magna cum laude in 1975, and |
|
while working for the Austin Independent School District, she |
|
attained her master's degree in curriculum and instruction; after |
|
teaching civics at Falfurrias High School for four years, she went |
|
on to earn her master's degree in school administration from Texas |
|
A&I University and her juris doctor degree from the UT School of |
|
Law; in 1984, Ms. Alemán became the assistant dean of student |
|
affairs at the UT School of Law, a position she held for 22 years; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Alemán was a passionate supporter of UT sports, |
|
and her home decor reflected her Longhorn pride; a woman of faith, |
|
she was a member of Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church, and in |
|
2022, she was installed as a Dame in the Equestrian Order of the |
|
Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; caring and outgoing, she maintained |
|
lifelong relationships with classmates, students, coworkers, |
|
members of her church, and people from all walks of life; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Susana Alemán |
|
will remember the way she touched their lives with her kindness, her |
|
generosity, and her positive outlook, and she will forever hold a |
|
treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Susana Imelda |
|
Alemán and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |
|
to her sister, Yolanda Wilson Alemán, and her husband, Christopher |
|
Nickel Guinn; to her niece, Lisa Mónica González-Lyons, and her |
|
husband, Tommey L. Lyons; to her grandnieces, Brianna Alicia White |
|
and Isabella Victoria Zu-Bolton; and to her other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Susana |
|
Alemán. |
