R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, National Infertility Awareness Week is being |
|
observed from April 20 through 26, 2025, to rally support for those |
|
who experience difficulties in achieving pregnancy and to highlight |
|
the importance of reproductive medicine; and |
|
WHEREAS, An estimated one in six individuals worldwide |
|
struggles with infertility, and the general U.S. fertility rate is |
|
at a historic low, having dropped three percent between 2022 and |
|
2023 and consistently decreasing by two percent annually from 2014 |
|
to 2020; infertility affects people of all backgrounds, identities, |
|
and communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Individuals who are unable to conceive may pursue |
|
options such as fertility treatments, adoption, donor conception, |
|
or fostering; in 2021, approximately 85,000 infants in the U.S. |
|
were born as a result of in vitro fertilization, and in February |
|
2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to expand |
|
access to IVF and reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for |
|
such treatments; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1989, National Infertility Awareness |
|
Week unites people across the country in their commitment to |
|
improving outcomes for families that have been impacted by |
|
infertility; the annual observance also spotlights the outstanding |
|
doctors, researchers, and other medical professionals who have |
|
contributed to this worthwhile cause; and |
|
WHEREAS, A wide range of resources and services are available |
|
to individuals experiencing infertility, and National Infertility |
|
Awareness Week provides an opportunity to focus attention on the |
|
issue and to highlight the forms of assistance that are available; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize April 20 through 26, 2025, as National |
|
Infertility Awareness Week and encourage all Texans to learn more |
|
about this important health issue. |
