R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Robert Travis Wood of Concho County on February 24, 2024, |
|
at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Mary and Dola Wood, Robert Wood was born |
|
in Concho County on February 22, 1937, and he grew up with the |
|
companionship of six siblings, Mike, Jan, Judy, Gwen, Eddie, and |
|
Richard; he graduated from Paint Rock High School, where he |
|
excelled in athletics, and he attended San Angelo College before |
|
enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1958; he served for three years, and |
|
he completed his final deployment in South Korea; and |
|
WHEREAS, On December 6, 1959, Mr. Wood wed the former Glenda |
|
Jean Thomas, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that |
|
spanned nearly 65 years; he took great pride in their two daughters, |
|
Kathy and Dawn, and he had the pleasure of seeing his treasured |
|
family grow to include eight grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, After training at Texas A&M University, Mr. Wood |
|
embarked on a fulfilling career as a game warden for the Texas Parks |
|
and Wildlife Department in 1966; he completed short assignments in |
|
Houston and Abilene before moving to Ballinger in 1971, where he |
|
served Runnels County with great distinction for more than two |
|
decades; he was an exceptionally skilled member of the state's |
|
shooting teams, and in recognition of his outstanding record, he |
|
was honored as a top game warden by the Southeastern Texas Game and |
|
Fish Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Wood enjoyed raising cattle and |
|
goats and caring for the land on the Wood/Novian Ranch in Concho |
|
County, which has been in his family for more than a century; he |
|
spent many happy hours sharing his love of nature with his |
|
grandchildren, whom he taught to shoot, hunt, and fish; and |
|
WHEREAS, Robert Wood lived a caring and purposeful life, and |
|
he will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who held |
|
him close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Travis Wood |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Glenda Wood; to his children, Kathy Hansen and her husband, |
|
Andy, and Dawn Sproat; to his grandchildren, Meredith, Andrew, |
|
Judge, Harris, and Margo Hansen, and Kristen, Eddie, and Kendall |
|
Sproat; to his brother, Mike Wood; and to his many other relatives |
|
and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert |
|
Wood. |
