R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Shane Downing is retiring as superintendent of the |
|
|
Holland Independent School District in 2025, drawing to a close an |
|
|
exemplary tenure with the district that has spanned more than two |
|
|
and a half decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Downing began his career with Holland |
|
|
ISD as a teacher and coach at Holland High School; in 2004, he was |
|
|
named principal of Holland Elementary School, and he served in that |
|
|
role for 15 years; he was unanimously elected district |
|
|
superintendent in January 2019; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Mr. Downing has |
|
|
prioritized student needs and created a positive work environment |
|
|
for faculty and staff; an excellent leader, listener, and |
|
|
communicator, he has earned the admiration and appreciation of his |
|
|
colleagues for his outstanding problem-solving and management |
|
|
skills; moreover, he has overseen significant growth and change in |
|
|
the district, and he has strengthened educational processes and |
|
|
school operations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Downing holds a bachelor's degree from Stephen |
|
|
F. Austin State University and a master's degree in educational |
|
|
administration from Tarleton State University; he began his career |
|
|
in 1992 as a math teacher and coach in the Bruceville-Eddy school |
|
|
district before joining Holland ISD; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Retirement will afford Mr. Downing more time to |
|
|
spend with his family, which includes his wife of more than 30 |
|
|
years, Kandi, their children, Ashtyn and Drew, and their |
|
|
grandchildren, Palmer and Peightyn; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedication and commitment to |
|
|
excellence, Shane Downing has helped countless young Texans acquire |
|
|
the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his |
|
|
contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Shane Downing on his retirement as |
|
|
superintendent of the Holland Independent School District and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Downing as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
