R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shane Downing is retiring as superintendent of the
  Holland Independent School District in 2025, drawing to a close an
  exemplary tenure with the district that has spanned more than two
  and a half decades; and
         WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Downing began his career with Holland
  ISD as a teacher and coach at Holland High School; in 2004, he was
  named principal of Holland Elementary School, and he served in that
  role for 15 years; he was unanimously elected district
  superintendent in January 2019; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Mr. Downing has
  prioritized student needs and created a positive work environment
  for faculty and staff; an excellent leader, listener, and
  communicator, he has earned the admiration and appreciation of his
  colleagues for his outstanding problem-solving and management
  skills; moreover, he has overseen significant growth and change in
  the district, and he has strengthened educational processes and
  school operations; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Downing holds a bachelor's degree from Stephen
  F. Austin State University and a master's degree in educational
  administration from Tarleton State University; he began his career
  in 1992 as a math teacher and coach in the Bruceville-Eddy school
  district before joining Holland ISD; and
         WHEREAS, Retirement will afford Mr. Downing more time to
  spend with his family, which includes his wife of more than 30
  years, Kandi, their children, Ashtyn and Drew, and their
  grandchildren, Palmer and Peightyn; and
         WHEREAS, Through his dedication and commitment to
  excellence, Shane Downing has helped countless young Texans acquire
  the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his
  contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Shane Downing on his retirement as
  superintendent of the Holland Independent School District and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Downing as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
