R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Kristen and David Cox have been named the 2025-2026 |
|
Parents of the Year by Texas A&M University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1956, Texas A&M has provided students with the |
|
opportunity to nominate their family members for special |
|
recognition; this year, Mr. and Mrs. Cox were nominated for the |
|
Parents of the Year award by their son, Kyle Cox, a member of the |
|
Texas A&M Class of 2018 and a doctoral student in the Department of |
|
Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 1983 graduate of Texas A&M, Kristen Cox has |
|
enjoyed a rewarding career in the technology industry; when her son |
|
was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, she realized that |
|
he would need constant care, and she founded her own computer |
|
company so that she could work from home; her son eventually |
|
followed in her footsteps to become a student at Texas A&M, and she |
|
moved with her company to College Station to continue supporting |
|
him; in 2019, she became the chief executive officer of 12th Man |
|
Technology, the official technology partner of Texas A&M |
|
University; under her able leadership, the business has employed |
|
numerous Aggie students, and it has sponsored campus events; |
|
moreover, the business received the Aggie 100 Entrepreneur Award in |
|
2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cox was president of the El Paso A&M Club for a |
|
decade, and she has been involved in the Brazos Valley A&M Club; she |
|
is also a corporate partner with the Texas A&M Moms' Club as well as |
|
a judge for the College of Engineering; active with the Aggie Women |
|
Network, she served as a board member before being elected |
|
president, and she received the organization's Legacy Award; she |
|
has further distinguished herself as a board member for the Texas |
|
Council for Developmental Disabilities and the National Center for |
|
Missing & Exploited Children; a dedicated advocate for people with |
|
disabilities, she has helped to train service dogs for children |
|
with Duchenne muscular dystrophy; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Cox has been a steadfast source of support and |
|
encouragement to his wife and son; a former NASA employee, he |
|
currently works at Texas A&M, and he has assisted with 12th Man |
|
Technology; in addition, he and Mrs. Cox have created scholarships |
|
for students with disabilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Kristen and David Cox have made a lasting, positive |
|
impact on the Aggie community, and it is a pleasure to join in |
|
honoring them for their many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Kristen and David Cox on being |
|
named the 2025-2026 Parents of the Year by Texas A&M University and |
|
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Cox as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
