R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Nickel Sandwich Grill in Houston celebrated its |
|
24th anniversary on April 4, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, The restaurant's founder, Craig Presley, grew up in |
|
the historic Fifth Ward neighborhood and graduated from Phillis |
|
Wheatley High School and Texas Southern University; he owned and |
|
operated a Blimpie franchise for two years before joining the |
|
Houston Independent School District to teach biology to at-risk |
|
students; determined to own his own business and to set an example |
|
of entrepreneurship for area youth, he cashed in his teacher |
|
retirement to establish a restaurant in the Fifth Ward; the Nickel |
|
Sandwich Grill opened its doors in March 2001; over the years, the |
|
restaurant has given back to the community by sponsoring school and |
|
neighborhood activities and participating in summer youth |
|
employment programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Nickel Sandwich Grill has won the loyalty of |
|
many Houston residents while contributing to the prosperity of the |
|
local economy, and it has attained the status of a treasured |
|
community institution; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Nickel |
|
Sandwich Grill and extend to all those associated with the |
|
restaurant sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the business as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
