R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. M. D. Morrison Sr. has been named a recipient of
  a 2025 Outstanding Texan Award for House District 142 by the Texas
  Legislative Black Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, A third-generation Baptist pastor, Dr. Morrison
  earned his doctorate of divinity from the Theocracy School of
  Religion; he joined Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Victoria
  as pastor in September 2011, and during his tenure with the
  congregation, he had the distinction of being the first African
  American minister to be deputized by the Victoria County Sheriff's
  Office; since 2017, he has been the senior pastor at Philippian's
  New Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his other responsibilities,
  Dr. Morrison established the Minister's Coalition of Harris County
  and Vicinity in 2020 to support local churches and communities, and
  he serves as the organization's president; under his able
  leadership, the coalition has distributed millions of pounds of
  groceries and provided tens of thousands of dollars in assistance
  to people in need; in addition, he has mentored young athletes
  through a weekly high school Bible study program; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed pastor has demonstrated a
  wholehearted commitment to his church and his wider community of
  faith, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. M. D. Morrison Sr. on his
  receipt of a 2025 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas
  Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success with his important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Morrison as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
