R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio has been |
|
|
named a 2024 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality |
|
|
Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Named for Malcolm Baldrige, the 26th U.S. secretary |
|
|
of commerce, this prestigious award is the nation's highest level |
|
|
of recognition that an organization can receive for performance |
|
|
excellence; it was established in 1987 by Congress to enhance the |
|
|
competitiveness and performance of U.S. businesses and was |
|
|
redesigned in 2024 to focus on organizational resilience; the only |
|
|
educational institution in the country to earn the distinction for |
|
|
2024, ACD previously received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality |
|
|
Award in 2018; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1945, the Alamo Colleges District is one |
|
|
of the largest community college systems in the nation, employing |
|
|
nearly 5,600 people and serving more than 100,000 students; the |
|
|
district encompasses five campuses, Northeast Lakeview College, |
|
|
Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip's College, |
|
|
and San Antonio College, as well as several education and training |
|
|
centers; currently led by Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores, the district |
|
|
seeks to foster economic and social mobility and to meet workforce |
|
|
demands through affordable or tuition-free education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, ACD has launched a number of successful programs |
|
|
designed to improve student outcomes, such as AlamoPROMISE, which |
|
|
covers the difference between financial aid and the overall cost of |
|
|
tuition and books, and AlamoADVISE, which provides personalized |
|
|
advising and resources with a special focus on supporting |
|
|
nontraditional students and those dealing with economic or academic |
|
|
disadvantages; the institution has maintained high course |
|
|
completion and productive grade rates, and it has seen increased |
|
|
employee and student satisfaction in recent years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Alamo Colleges District has served as a gateway |
|
|
to opportunity for generations of Texans over the past eight |
|
|
decades, and its receipt of this well-deserved honor is a testament |
|
|
to the ongoing dedication of its faculty, students, and staff; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Alamo Colleges District on its |
|
|
receipt of a 2024 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and |
|
|
extend to all those associated with the district sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Alamo Colleges District as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
