R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Senior Captain Edward Escamilla and firefighters |
|
Jonathan Guzman and Darren Jones of the Houston Fire Department |
|
demonstrated great bravery in the line of duty when they responded |
|
to an apartment fire on January 7, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, The two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex |
|
in southeast Houston at approximately 5:30 a.m. and quickly spread, |
|
consuming two units and prompting an urgent evacuation; after |
|
arriving at the scene, the three firefighters entered the building |
|
to check if anyone was still inside; during their search, they |
|
became trapped by a heavy door, and they issued a distress call for |
|
rescue; and |
|
WHEREAS, As their gear melted due to the extreme heat, the |
|
team sustained severe burns to their hands, legs, and necks; |
|
another firefighter subsequently ripped the door open and helped |
|
them get to safety; following weeks of extensive treatment at |
|
Memorial Hermann Hospital, all three of the firefighters were |
|
eventually discharged from its burn unit; and |
|
WHEREAS, Every day, firefighters are called upon to put |
|
themselves in harm's way to come to the aid of their fellow |
|
citizens, and through their valiant actions, these heroic Texans |
|
have distinguished themselves as exemplary members of their |
|
profession; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Senior Captain Edward Escamilla and |
|
firefighters Jonathan Guzman and Darren Jones for their courageous |
|
actions in responding to an apartment fire and extend to each of |
|
them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for each firefighter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
