R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Alfrelynn J. Roberts was elected president of the |
|
National Association of Negro Musicians in 2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime member of the association, Ms. Roberts |
|
served for a decade as national vice president, and she oversaw |
|
membership, worked with regional leaders, and conducted an in-depth |
|
assessment of the organization's health; during her tenure as |
|
national convention director, she was responsible for everything |
|
from scouting locations to negotiating hotel, vendor, artist, and |
|
workshop clinician contracts; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Roberts is an accomplished musician, performer, |
|
choral director, vocal coach, and arts administrator; she has |
|
worked in digital arts, voice-over, television, film, and |
|
theatrical productions; in addition, she has taught music at the |
|
high school and college levels, and she has served Texas Wesleyan |
|
University as an adjunct voice professor, associate artistic |
|
director, and chorus master; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Roberts has held many key |
|
positions with arts organizations, including director of artistic |
|
planning and operations at Portland Opera and interim general |
|
director, chorus master, and associate artistic director for |
|
Fort Worth Opera; she has led the South Dallas Concert Choir for 10 |
|
seasons as artistic and choral director, and she has expanded its |
|
reach to larger and more diverse audiences; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Roberts has shared her time and expertise with a |
|
host of civic organizations, among them the board of the City of |
|
Dallas Cultural Arts Committee; she is active in the music ministry |
|
of St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church and previously |
|
served as chair of the congregation's board of trustees; in |
|
addition, she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the |
|
American Guild of Musical Artists, and the Dallas Metroplex |
|
Musicians' Association; she holds a bachelor's degree in vocal |
|
music performance from Hampton University and a master's degree in |
|
that subject from Northwestern University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Alfrelynn Roberts is advancing the mission of the |
|
National Association of Negro Musicians to preserve, encourage, and |
|
advocate for all genres of the music of Black Americans, and her |
|
contributions are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Alfrelynn J. Roberts on her |
|
election as president of the National Association of Negro |
|
Musicians and extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful |
|
tenure; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Roberts as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
