R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The James Haggard Chapter of the National Society
  Colonial Dames XVII Century is placing a historical marker at the
  Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens in Nacogdoches on
  May 20, 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1958, the James Haggard Chapter of
  the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century works to aid in the
  preservation of records and historic sites of the United States, to
  foster interest in historical colonial research, and to promote the
  education of youth; the organization also pays tribute to the
  founders of our nation, and its members uphold the same principles
  of virtue, courage, and patriotism that led to the independence of
  the 13 British colonies and the creation of the United States of
  America; in addition, the organization maintains a library of
  heraldry and preserves the lineage and coats of arms of the
  ancestors of its members; and
         WHEREAS, The Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens was
  constructed near the intersection of the old El Camino Real de los
  Tejas and La Calle del Norte in 1835; over the years, the property
  served as a home for many early businesspeople, bankers, and
  political leaders, and it still stands today as the second-oldest
  building in Nacogdoches; visitors to the site are able to tour a
  hands-on museum featuring a smokehouse, blacksmith shop, and
  chicken coop as well as heirloom gardens and a sugarcane mill; and
         WHEREAS, By placing a historical marker at the Durst-Taylor
  Historic House and Gardens, the James Haggard Chapter of the
  National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is helping to preserve
  the Nacogdoches area's unique heritage and culture, and the
  organization is indeed worthy of recognition on this special
  occasion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the James Haggard Chapter of the National
  Society Colonial Dames XVII Century for placing a historical marker
  at the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens and extend to all
  those affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for
  continued success in their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
