R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jesus A. Padilla Sr. of
  the Tigua Reservation in El Paso has rendered exceptional service
  to his nation and his community; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Padilla joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970,
  and he served with distinction for seven years, including during
  the Vietnam War; in honor of his valor and selfless contributions,
  he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service
  Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Presidential Campaign Medal,
  Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal, and Marine Corps Combat
  Action Ribbon; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, Mr. Padilla is
  the Native American liaison for the U.S. Department of Veterans
  Affairs as well as the senior vice commander of the Southwest
  American Indian Association, and he has served as president of the
  Eagle Claw Warrior Society for more than four decades; in addition,
  he is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former
  commander of VFW Tigua Post No. 8782, and he previously served as a
  council member and sheriff for the Tigua Tribe; he has been involved
  in numerous other organizations supporting veterans and Native
  Americans, including the National Congress of American Indian
  Veterans Committee, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Marine
  Corps Association; and
         WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Mr. Padilla received
  the prestigious Spirit of America Medal from the secretary of
  veterans affairs, and he was honored as an Eagle Staff Carrier by
  the governor of New Mexico; moreover, he was appointed commissioner
  for the State of New Mexico; he is a devoted father to his 5
  children, and he has had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
  include 10 grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Through his wide-ranging civic endeavors, Jesus
  Padilla has helped to honor the service and sacrifice of his fellow
  military veterans while also benefiting his community, and his
  contributions are truly worthy of special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Jesus A. Padilla Sr. for his service to
  his nation and his community and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Padilla as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
