R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The San Elizario High School boys' soccer team
  closed out an unforgettable year by winning the 2024 University
  Interscholastic League 4A state championship; and
         WHEREAS, Following an impressive showing during the regular
  season, the Eagles continued to excel in the playoffs, recording a
  series of shutout victories to advance to the state tournament; in
  the semifinals, San Elizario clinched a thrilling 1-0 decision over
  Navasota High School by knocking in a penalty kick in double
  overtime; and
         WHEREAS, On April 12, San Elizario took the field against
  undefeated Boerne High School with the championship on the line;
  the Eagles snapped a scoreless tie in the second half and relied on
  their defense down the stretch to seal a 1-0 victory and secure the
  program's fourth state crown in the past decade; and
         WHEREAS, Four San Elizario players were named to the
  All-Tournament Team: Angel Valdez, Noah Mendez, and brothers
  Eduardo Marquez and Francisco Marquez, with Francisco being
  selected as the Championship Game Most Valuable Player; the Eagles
  also received valuable contributions throughout the year from the
  other roster members: Keyshawn Jaquez, Daniel Ruiz, Eduardo Jurado,
  Angel Salas, Marco Legarda, Brian Zuniga, Santiago Berumen, Andrey
  Martinez, Jaime Darey Garcia, Dante Aranda, Carlos Medeles, Jason
  Lira, Bryan Carreon, Matthew Hernandez, Stephen Chairez, Sebastian
  Sarmiento, Luis Jurado, Josue Pavia Galindo, Kevin Hernandez, and
  Alvaro Estrada; the athletes were guided by head coach Max
  Sappenfield and assistant coaches Mario Espinoza and Hugo
  Carrizales, and they received additional support from trainers
  Jesus Medina and David Cervantes and managers Mario Mendez, Paloma
  Song, and Kamber Sanchez; and
         WHEREAS, By once again earning the mantle of state champions,
  the San Elizario Eagles have burnished the school's reputation as a
  powerhouse of the pitch, and this achievement will be fondly
  remembered for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the San Elizario High School boys'
  soccer team on winning the 2024 UIL 4A state championship and extend
  to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
