R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Nancy Chavira of Johanna O'Donnell Intermediate
  School in Fabens has been presented with a 2024-2025 Milken
  Educator Award; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1987, this prestigious accolade
  recognizes outstanding educators from across the nation for their
  achievements and their commitment to their profession; each award
  comes with a $25,000 prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to the
  Milken Educator Awards Forum; Ms. Chavira was one of only 42
  individuals to be selected for the 2024-2025 honor, and she is the
  first recipient in Fabens Independent School District history; and
         WHEREAS, A bilingual fifth-grade math and science teacher,
  Ms. Chavira consistently achieves high results by ensuring her
  students comprehend their lessons on a deep level; she also
  promotes literacy by reading with her students and by training
  families on methods to use at home, and her class participates in
  such community endeavors as the annual O'Donnell Christmas Project;
  and
         WHEREAS, Among her many responsibilities, Ms. Chavira serves
  her campus as a member of the language proficiency assessment
  committee, as the yearbook coordinator, as a UIL and Destination
  Imagination coach, and as a mentor to first-year teachers and to
  teacher residents from The University of Texas at El Paso; in
  addition, she is involved in the Fabens ISD dual-language task
  force committee and is active with such organizations as the Texas
  Computer Education Association and the Texas Association for
  Bilingual Education; she holds a bachelor's degree in
  interdisciplinary studies from UTEP, and she has been designated a
  master teacher by the Texas Education Agency; and
         WHEREAS, Nancy Chavira exemplifies the passion,
  determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
  best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all
  in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Nancy Chavira on her receipt of a
  2024-2025 Milken Educator Award and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Chavira as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
