R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Wes-Mer Drive-In Theatre in Mercedes is |
|
celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, On July 6, 1950, Wes-Mer opened as a single screen |
|
drive-in theater with a 430-car capacity, and its first featured |
|
film was the romantic comedy Everybody Does It; through the |
|
decades, the business has persisted through such challenges as |
|
natural disasters, writers' strikes, and the COVID-19 pandemic to |
|
remain standing as one of an estimated 250 drive-in theaters still |
|
operating in the United States; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each evening, Wes-Mer presents two feature films |
|
using digital projection and sound broadcasted via FM radio; the |
|
theater also offers its patrons a variety of concessions; and |
|
WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, the Wes-Mer |
|
Drive-In Theatre has served the Rio Grande Valley as a family |
|
entertainment destination, and it is a pleasure to join in |
|
recognizing the business on this milestone occasion; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Wes-Mer |
|
Drive-In Theatre and extend to all those associated with the |
|
business sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the theater as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
