R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The mock trial team from The University of Texas at
  Austin made a fine showing at the American Mock Trial Association's
  2025 National Championship Tournament, held in Cleveland, Ohio; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1985 by Dean Richard Calkins of Drake Law
  School, the American Mock Trial Association is the governing body
  for intercollegiate mock trial competitions; these simulations
  allow students to develop critical thinking and public speaking
  skills and expand their knowledge of legal practices and
  procedures; and
         WHEREAS, Each season, AMTA hosts 32 regional tournaments,
  8 opening round championship tournaments, and a national
  championship tournament, involving some 700 teams from over 400
  colleges and universities; more than 7,300 undergraduates across
  the country compete during each academic year; and
         WHEREAS, Texas Mock Trial was established in 1991 as UT's
  official mock trial team; over the years, the program has brought
  home trophies from tournaments all across the country; with a
  record of 10.5 wins, one loss, and one tie, it earned fourth place
  at the 2025 AMTA national tournament, besting dozens of the most
  competitive collegiate mock trial programs in the U.S., and this
  impressive performance has secured the UT group the number five
  spot in the nation in the 2025-2026 AMTA Team Power Rankings; and
         WHEREAS, Through their accomplishments in the AMTA
  competition, the members of Texas Mock Trial have brought great
  credit to The University of Texas at Austin, and they may indeed
  take pride in the results of their hard work and commitment to
  excellence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Texas Mock Trial on earning fourth
  place at the American Mock Trial Association's 2025 National
  Tournament and extend to its members sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
