R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The City of San Antonio has greatly benefited from
  the leadership of Ron Nirenberg, who is concluding his tenure as
  mayor in June 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Nirenberg first entered the field of public
  service as a volunteer for former San Antonio mayor Julián Castro's
  SA2020 citizen engagement initiative; he was subsequently elected
  to represent District 8 on the San Antonio City Council in 2013, and
  in the course of his two terms in office, he championed smart city
  and regional planning, fiscal responsibility, inclusive economic
  development, environmental stewardship, and governmental
  accountability; he went on to be elected to the office of mayor in
  2017, and he has served four terms; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mayor Nirenberg has spearheaded such
  major collaborative efforts as the expansion and renovation of San
  Antonio International Airport and the Alamo Plan redevelopment
  project; under his leadership, funding was secured for a modern
  rapid transit system, as well as for the San Antonio Ready to Work
  workforce development initiative and the renewal of Mayor Castro's
  Pre-K 4 SA program, and he also provided critical direction during
  the COVID-19 pandemic; in addition, he helped to implement free
  community college tuition for graduates of local high schools, to
  pass the city's first affordable housing bond, and to cofound the
  South Texas Alliance of Cities to promote free trade and
  manufacturing jobs; and
         WHEREAS, A major proponent of San Antonio's Climate Action
  and Adaptation Plan, Mayor Nirenberg played an instrumental role in
  developing a long-term funding solution for the Edwards Aquifer
  Protection Program, and he has served as a member of the Climate
  Mayors Steering Committee; he has demonstrated a steadfast
  commitment to fostering a compassionate community with a globally
  competitive economy, building upon former San Antonio mayor Phil
  Hardberger's legacy of international fellowship by establishing
  partnerships with sister cities in Germany, Mexico, Canada, the
  Philippines, and Spain; moreover, he formed the Mayor's Housing
  Policy Task Force in 2017 to work to ensure universal access to
  quality and affordable housing; in all his endeavors, Mayor
  Nirenberg enjoys the love and support of his wife, Erika Prosper,
  and their son, Jonah Nirenberg; and
         WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional vision, leadership, and
  fiscal acumen, Ron Nirenberg has guided San Antonio through a
  period of tremendous change while setting the stage for long-term
  progress and sustainability, and his outstanding contributions
  will resonate far into the future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Ron Nirenberg for his service as mayor of
  San Antonio and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Nirenberg as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
