R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In a ceremony held in May 2022, Karla Yvette Sierra |
|
of El Paso received the John F. Kennedy Service Award from the Peace |
|
Corps; and |
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is given every five years to |
|
a select number of Peace Corps volunteers and staff members who have |
|
made contributions beyond their duties that have benefited the |
|
agency and the nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Sierra joined the Peace Corps after graduating |
|
from Colorado Christian University; she served in Panama from 2010 |
|
to 2012 as a community economic development volunteer and then |
|
worked for an additional year in the country as a consultant through |
|
the Peace Corps Response program; during her tenure, she created |
|
partnerships with the Republic of Panama Ministry of Education and |
|
the United Nations Development Programme to reduce poverty, |
|
increase awareness of HIV and AIDS, and implement assistance |
|
projects; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Ms. Sierra is an engagement director at |
|
LIBRE, an advocacy organization in El Paso, where she works with |
|
members of the Hispanic community to advance financial literacy and |
|
to encourage involvement in civic issues and volunteer initiatives; |
|
she holds a master of business administration degree from The |
|
University of Texas at El Paso; and |
|
WHEREAS, Karla Sierra's dedicated efforts in the Peace Corps |
|
made a positive difference in many lives and laid a foundation for |
|
her ongoing service work, and she may reflect with pride on her many |
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Karla Yvette Sierra on receiving a |
|
2021 John F. Kennedy Service Award from the Peace Corps and extend |
|
to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Sierra as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
