R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Adelie Donovan of Kyle was recognized as the second |
|
annual Hays County Youth Poet Laureate on March 25, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, The National Youth Poet Laureate program partners |
|
with local literary arts organizations across the country to |
|
identify, celebrate, and elevate exceptional young writers; the |
|
Hays County initiative is sponsored by Infrarrealista Review and |
|
The Burdine Johnson Foundation, and it is conducted by experienced |
|
poets who lead students through a series of creative writing |
|
workshops that culminate in the completion of a manuscript, which |
|
is then considered for prizes; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Donovan is a student at Jack C. Hays High |
|
School, and she received guidance from instructor SG Huerta while |
|
attending workshops hosted at Centro Cultural Hispano in San |
|
Marcos; her submission, Epitaph for My Fireflies, was selected by |
|
award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye, and it explored such important |
|
topics as mental health, traumatic events, and the adolescent |
|
experience; in addition to receiving the title of Hays County Youth |
|
Poet Laureate, she was also awarded a $1,000 prize, and her original |
|
work was published by Plancha Press; and |
|
WHEREAS, This accomplished young Texan has demonstrated |
|
remarkable skill and dedication in the pursuit of her goals, and she |
|
may indeed take great pride in this recent achievement; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Adelie Donovan on her selection as |
|
the 2025 Hays County Youth Poet Laureate and extend to her sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Donovan as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
