R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of San Marcos has been named a Bird City
  Texas community by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and
  Audubon Texas; and
         WHEREAS, One of only 11 cities to earn this certification
  since the program began in 2020, San Marcos met rigorous criteria by
  maintaining bird-friendly native landscapes, removing invasive
  species, expanding green spaces and trails, and promoting
  alternative transportation options; located along the Central
  Flyway route, the community serves as a critical stopover for
  migrating birds, and it is uniquely positioned at the convergence
  of several ecoregions, providing diverse habitats that support a
  wide range of bird species; and
         WHEREAS, As spring approaches, San Marcos will celebrate its
  certification with a series of events, including an official Bird
  City Texas designation ceremony, the Great Backyard Bird Count, and
  the Migratory Bird Day Festival, which it has hosted since 2021;
  additionally, the community will continue to offer educational
  programs that encourage conservation efforts among residents; and
         WHEREAS, San Marcos has demonstrated a steadfast commitment
  to creating a thriving environment for birds and other wildlife,
  and it is indeed deserving of this prestigious recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the city of San Marcos on being
  designated a Bird City Texas community by the Texas Parks and
  Wildlife Department and Audubon Texas and commend all those
  involved in securing this honor for their efforts; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the city as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
