R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
  cause for celebration, and Susie Ray Northington is marking this
  momentous milestone in her life on January 18, 2026; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Margaret Louise Bishop and Alonzo
  Whitfield Bishop, the former Susie Bishop was born in Evergreen,
  Alabama, in 1926, and grew up on the family farm during the Great
  Depression; her parents raised their six children to pray nightly,
  and they attended the Evergreen Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 18, she began working in Washington,
  D.C., as a messenger delivering classified documents for Rheem
  Manufacturing Company, a supplier of military materials during
  World War II; she then became a cadet at St. Margaret School of
  Nursing; and
         WHEREAS, She married the love of her life, Charles William
  Northington, on September 21, 1947; the couple were blessed with
  three children, and while her husband was completing his degree at
  Auburn University, Mrs. Northington supported the household; in
  1967, the family moved to Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Northington played a key role in a Texas pilot
  program, Primary Home Care, designed to assist the elderly in
  living independently; later, she worked with FEMA alongside her
  husband to provide disaster relief in Texas and neighboring states;
  and
         WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Northington is the cherished matriarch
  of a fine family that has grown to include 5 grandchildren and 14
  great-grandchildren; she is a charter member of Hunters Glen
  Baptist Church in Plano, where she has worshipped since 1979; and
         WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Susie
  Northington has witnessed a panorama of change during a historic
  century, and her 100th birthday offers a welcome opportunity for
  her loved ones to acknowledge the special place she holds in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Susie Ray Northington on the joyous
  occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Northington as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
