R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The University of Texas rugby club achieved great |
|
distinction by winning the 2025 Lonestar Conference 7s state |
|
championship; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Longhorns opened tournament play by besting |
|
Texas Tech University 12-7 and tying the University of North Texas |
|
14-14; they next dominated in their contest with Rice University, |
|
posting a commanding 40-0 shutout win to reach the semifinals; and |
|
WHEREAS, There, UT punched its ticket to the finals with a |
|
28-12 decision over Texas State University; the Longhorns then |
|
delivered an exceptional performance in their matchup against |
|
Baylor University, completing their undefeated run through the |
|
bracket with a decisive 19-10 victory to clinch the state title; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of its campaign, UT received |
|
valuable contributions from each member of the roster: Daniel Jing, |
|
Niklas Moelders, Jackson Dubree, Alden King, Dimi Bernitsas, John |
|
Shaheen, Alex Broadnax, Max Leman, Justin Padilla, Troy Toglia, |
|
Reid Powning, J Keeley, and Sal Brancaccio; these talented athletes |
|
were ably guided by head coach Van Stewart and his coaching staff, |
|
which includes Russell Webb, Mark Rooney, and Carter Bentsen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Winning a conference state championship represents |
|
the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
|
commitment to excellence, and the members of the Texas rugby team |
|
may indeed reflect with pride on this outstanding achievement; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas rugby club |
|
on winning the 2025 Lonestar Conference 7s state championship and |
|
extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
