A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the costs associated with the assessment and
  destruction of certain deer.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 43.955(a), Parks and Wildlife Code, is
  amended to read as follows:
         (a)  The department [applicable permit holder] shall pay all
  costs associated with:
               (1)  an epidemiological assessment conducted under
  this subchapter to the animal health commission; and
               (2)  [except as provided by Subsection (b),] the
  destruction of deer under this subchapter, including any costs
  associated with the disposal of the deer [to the department].
         SECTION 2.  Sections 43.955(b) and (c), Parks and Wildlife
  Code, are repealed.
         SECTION 3.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to the payment of costs arising from an epidemiological assessment
  conducted, or the destruction of deer commenced, on or after the
  effective date of this Act.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
