A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to personal leave provided for a classroom teacher to |
|
|
testify at a public hearing. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 22.0031 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 22.0031. PERSONAL LEAVE FOR TESTIFYING AT PUBLIC |
|
|
HEARING. (a) In addition to all other days of leave provided by |
|
|
Section 22.003 or by a school district, a classroom teacher is |
|
|
entitled to not less than two days of leave for compensation to |
|
|
testify at a public hearing of a local, state, or federal |
|
|
governmental entity. |
|
|
(b) Days of leave taken under this section may not be |
|
|
deducted from a classroom teacher's accumulated personal leave. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
