A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a public institution of higher education's orientation |
|
on the institution's sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating |
|
violence, and stalking policy. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 51.282(c), Education Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(c) Each postsecondary educational institution shall |
|
require each entering freshman or undergraduate transfer student to |
|
attend an orientation on the institution's sexual harassment, |
|
sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking policy before or |
|
during the first semester or term in which the student is enrolled |
|
at the institution. The institution shall establish the format and |
|
content of the orientation. The orientation: |
|
(1) may be provided online; and |
|
(2) must include: |
|
(A) a video that states: |
|
(i) the names of the institution's Title IX |
|
coordinators and deputy coordinators; |
|
(ii) the location and contact information |
|
of the institution's Title IX office; and |
|
(iii) the services provided by the |
|
institution's Title IX office; and |
|
(B) the statements described by Subsection |
|
(a)(1)(E). |
|
SECTION 2. Section 51.282(c), Education Code, as amended by |
|
this Act, applies beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
