A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to participation in the governor's university research |
|
|
initiative. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 62.161(2), Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(2) "Eligible institution" means a general academic |
|
|
teaching institution ,private or independent institution of higher |
|
|
education, or medical and dental unit. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 62.163, Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(d) A matching grant may not be used by an eligible |
|
|
institution to recruit a distinguished researcher from[: |
|
|
(1)] another eligible institution[; or |
|
|
(2) a private or independent institution of higher |
|
|
education]. |
|
|
SECTION 3. The changes made to Sections 62.161(2) and |
|
|
62.163(d), Education Code, as amended by this Act, applies only to |
|
|
an agreement entered into under Subchapter H, Chapter 62, Education |
|
|
Code, on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
