A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the authority of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles |
|
|
to take an action that would disrupt commerce based on the |
|
|
occurrence of an astronomical event. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 1003, Transportation Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 1003.006 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1003.006. PROTECTION OF COMMERCE DURING ASTRONOMICAL |
|
|
EVENT. The department may not take an action based on the |
|
|
occurrence of an astronomical event if that action would result in |
|
|
the disruption of commerce, including the disruption of commercial |
|
|
transportation, unless the area affected by the action is subject |
|
|
to: |
|
|
(1) a state of disaster declared under Section 418.014 |
|
|
or 418.108, Government Code; or |
|
|
(2) a disaster declared by the president of the United |
|
|
States. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
