A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the employment of full-time registered nurses at public |
|
|
schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 33.916 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 33.916. EMPLOYMENT OF REGISTERED NURSES. A school |
|
|
district or open-enrollment charter school shall: |
|
|
(1) employ at least one full-time registered nurse at |
|
|
each campus of the district or school; and |
|
|
(2) maintain an average ratio of not less than one |
|
|
full-time registered nurse for every 750 students enrolled at the |
|
|
district or school. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
